Yarnaby

Yarnaby was a toy produced by Playtime Co. and acted as a minor antagonist in the Chapter 4 of Poppy Playtime: "Safe Haven".

In Part 4: "Safe Haven", Yarnaby is introduced by Harley Sauer as one of his loyal experiments after the player escapes from the prison blocks. While Yarnaby explores the holding area, Dowie assists the player by distracting Yarnaby and guiding him away. The last encounter with Yarnaby occurs in No Man's Land, where he attempts to jump on the Player during the final chase, causing him to get caught in a chain and fall into a burning recycling sector.

Experiment 1166, the official name of the "Big Bodies" experiment involving Quinn Navidson. His prisoner profile states that he is malleable and impressionable, showing no aggression against scientists. He was noted to exhibit docile and loyal behavior towards certain scientists, including Harley Sauer, who took advantage of this to befriend Yarnaby and make him psychologically dependent on him. After Sowers disappeared, Yarnaby fell into a state of grief and despair for his master until the Hour of Joy, when they were reunited and Yarnaby became one of Sowers' many followers.

Where you can meet

Yarnaby first appeared when the player entered the experimentation room when his master, Harley Sauer, let him out of his cell to torture the Player. Yarnaby tried to get through the window that separated him from the player, but after several failed attempts, he left the room through a hole in the wall and began to chase the player. However, Dowie helped the player and distracted Yarnaby, but later Yarnaby still managed to follow the player through the vent and chased him through the storage room. The player managed to escape by locking Yarnaby in a room, where he presumably continued to roam the neighborhood looking for the player.

Later, when the Player was looking for a way into the No Man's Land room, part of the factory where Sauer was located, Yarnaby appeared from behind the gate and proceeded to hunt the Player through the caves. The former employee was able to power up the area, but Yarnaby found and pursued him through several corridors until the Player made it across a fire pit by grabbing onto a glowing hook on the ceiling. Yarnaby tried to follow him, but got stuck on the hook and caught fire (as his fur is made of yarn, a flammable substance, combined with the heat from the fire and hook). Once free of the hook, he was unable to reach the player, instead grabbing the edge of the pit for a moment before slipping and falling into the abyss below, still engulfed in flames.

Abilities and characteristics

As described in Chapter 4 of the Icepick ARG, Yarnaby is quite strong, as his body is comparable to that of a lion. He is also described as fast and agile. His face can open vertically, exposing two rows of sharp teeth and a strange small inner mouth. He has the ability to walk silently even when running, as seen in the trailer for Chapter 4, he has retractable claws, probably made of steel, similar to CatNap's claws, he is also able to emit music in some way, probably through a voice box, also shown in the trailer, to alert the Player of his presence.
